1. The more often you attempt to be crafty the easier it gets.
This is seriously true. Your mind gets used to thinking creatively and it comes more easily to you.
2. Set aside time just for you.
Time when you will not be distracted. Set aside your phone or laptop. Jumping back and forth between creative mode and other things will not help you.
3. Play music you love.
When I am being crafty I like to put on some fun, lively music. It could be 80's like I tend to go for or it can be anything else.
4. Pick a time of day that fits you.
Some people are night owls, ahem me, and some people love the morning light streaming through their windows while they are crafting. Pick a time that you like and feel most creative.
5. Let go of perfectionistic tendencies.
Perfectionism is the opposite of creativity in my opinion. It's something I struggle with as well. I want to do things "right". Well, with the creative process what's "right" is subjective. You have to just do and let it be.
6. Get together with friends to craft.
Crafting by yourself is great and crafting with friends is awesome! I swear that creativity grows immeasurably when laughing and chatting is involved.
7. Don't compare your art with someone else's.
You are not them. Your creative projects are just that, yours. They are special because you made them and no one's art is better than someone else's.
8. Look to Pinterest for ideas.
Have you been on Pinterest lately? There are so many ideas on there. In fact, I have a crafty board myself. Do a search and see what you come up with.
9. Dabble in various types of crafts.
Try something new. You'll never know what you love until you try it!
10. Take classes to develop your skills.
There is always something new to learn. Check with your local stores for class schedules.

Very nice Julie! :)
Great tips - my favorite are numbers 3 and 5!
This really hit home with me. I would love to do crafts but don't think of myself as creative. I really should get a group of friends together and give it a try!
So true about the crafts, haha. I've been kind of turned off of crafts since I had a baby blanket for a friend that went wrong. I don't know WHAT I did, but it won't unravel properly so I can start again. I need to get back to sketching and painting again... just hard to find a good chunk of time to myself with the little one around! Ah well, eventually.
Awesome post Julie!
I know number 5 is my problem! Thanks for sharing..I will take your advice :-)
