Love, Juliebug: Enjoy EVERY second?

Enjoy EVERY second?

"You should enjoy every moment now! They grow up so fast!"

I want to throttle the people who tell me this. Okay not really. But yes, it is true that kids grow up faster than Ben & Jerry's disappears from my freezer. That is not the issue. My issue with this statement is this. There is no way I can enjoy every moment.

You know that moment when your child throws herself to the floor because she wants a lollypop for the second (or third - don't judge!) time in a row. That moment is not one I can enjoy.

Then, there is whining and crying about every little thing. Sometimes over things I never even understand.

Saying that I should enjoy every moment makes me feel like a complete and utter failure of a Mom. And lets face it, no Mom needs help in that area.

I know at this point I am sounding like an ungrateful person. Children are blessings and I thank God every day for this child. I would not trade her for anything. I wish that all people who desire children could have them. You know, we struggled with infertility for 11 years before having her (and still do for that matter).

But, let's be real here because what else have we got? The fact that kids grow up fast does not negate the fact that parenting can be hard. So hard. There is no manual and each child is different.

Each moment is not a bouquet of roses. And that is okay. Do you hear me? It's okay to not be in love with every single second because the next ones might be absolutely breathtaking.

Relax and take it one moment at a time.

I think that's so true. People who say they are enjoying their child's tantrum moments are lying. lol I don't have children yet, but I'm 100% positive that when your child is doing something they shouldn't, something annoying, or is maybe puking all over the place you still LOVE your child with ALL of your heart. It doesn't mean you like that moment. But you do love your child.

So maybe people should just say, "Love your child every moment." I think that's bettr. :)
