#Sponsored PowerMyLearning is such an awesome site. It is a great resource for parents. As we all know, Summer is in full swing! Relaxing and enjoying the nice weather is great for kids, however, children who don’t engage in educational activities over the summer stand to lose an average of 2.6 months of academic growth – This is called Summer Slide.

Luckily, preventing Summer Slide is now fun for your little one with PowerMyLearning. http://powermylearning.org/ is a free website with everything your K-2nd grader needs to get ahead for the upcoming school year! The site provides educational online games that incorporate things your child already loves such as trains, animals and even fashion.

My daughter and I played some of the myriad of Math games on the site. I love that there are so many different games listed. You can pick from different areas of math such as counting or geometry. According to my daughter "It's fun!" And, she will be able to play them for years to come seeing as there are different grade levels as well. Here are some pics of it in action.

It was amazing to see her doing these games. I had no idea she would be able to graph or count to this extent. She was so proud of herself as well as having fun "playing" around with all the games.

I don't know what more you could want in a site! We had a blast and it's clear that she was learning. We will definitely keep using it!

 Kids’ Guide to Vikings

 Debuting on DVD July 23

Hiccup, Astrid, and the other teens at the Dragon Academy show us a bit about what it was like to live as a Viking, but there is so much more to know! Come take a look at this quick and easy guide to some of the most important facts about Viking life.

When it comes to action and excitement, the sky’s the limit in this high-flying animated adventure based on the Academy Award®-nominated hit movie How To Train Your Dragon!

Vikings at Sea

Not all Vikings travel by dragon like they do in Berk! Vikings built great, big boats called longships for war. Each one could carry at least 60 men! Even though they were so large, Viking longships were designed to be speedy and could move through the water much faster than other boats.

Viking Clothes

Vikings from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden dress a lot like Vikings from Berk, but with more layers. To stay warm in the cold winters, Vikings wore clothes made of wool, animal skin, or linen and shoes made of thick leather or goatskin. In battle, they wore helmets made of leather or iron.

Viking Homes

Vikings really knew how to make the most of their surroundings! Houses were built of stone, mud, and blocks of turf. They made thatched roofs from woven sticks covered in mud. Vikings probably wouldn’t let dragons sleep in their houses the way Toothless does!

Viking Children

The Vikings in Berk get to go to the Dragon Academy to learn about how to become better dragon trainers. Instead of going to school, real Viking kids stayed home to help their parents work. Even without school and books, children could learn about history through songs and stories passed down from the older members of the town.

Viking Food

The dragons in Berk eat fish, veggies, and bread given to them by their riders. Vikings ate similar foods, but also enjoyed meat from farm animals or wild animals that they would hunt. They drank out of wooden cups or drinking horns. Sometimes they had feasts for festivals that would last over a week!

If you've ever wondered what happened on the Island of Berk after Hiccup helped make peace with the dragons, here's your chance to find out! And now, for the best part...we are giving away both Part 1 & Part 2 (that's right TWO DVD's) of the brand new Dragons: Riders of Berk to one lucky reader! You and your children will giggle at the adventures.

This giveaway starts on 7/26 and ends on 8/9 at 11:59 pm.

Have you seen Miley Cirus' new video "We Can't Stop"? I'd share it here but I am pretty sure I'd be struck by lightning. To say it's bad would be the understatement of the year.
“It made no sense, like, nothing made sense,” one teen said “[Miley] just wanted to take every cool and edgy and explicit and naughty thing she could come up with and throw it all together in one big vomit of mess.”
This is from a teenager on Huff Post Teen. Responses about the video made me laugh and say "Yes!" I am glad to know that teens are not taking this stuff seriously and following her lead. I did, in fact, think "What are you doing, Hannah Montana?!" before I even read the comment made by another teen.
Can't you see it's we who own the night. Can't you see it we who 'bout that life.
And we can't stop. And we won't stop.
We run things. Things don't run we. Don't take nothing from nobody
Her use of the word "we" drives me insane in itself. Argh. You sound like a damn fool when you say it wrong. And, if you get the Back to the Future II reference there, you win! There are a lot of songs that drive me crazy and I'm sure there will be many more. Unfortunately.

What do you think about it? And, what songs drive you batty?

Ann Butler is the creative force behind Mango Tree Creations.  Ann has been a dressmaker in several stages of her life and her strength is in making Plus Size women look good.  Since she has  always loved fabrics, especially hand-printed, batiked and imported fabrics, she adapted the Indonesian batiks with fringe to the style that she developed - and the rest is history.

Ann has made hundreds of these tunics, dresses, and caftans. Her standard saying is that "this covers up the lumpy areas". Plus Size women find that they are a pretty alternative to t-shirts and flatter the wearer. Customers keep coming back to Mango Tree Creations for more.  Ann learns and adapts to her customers' tastes so she can send them a photo of all the cloth laid out.  When Ann receives a cloth shipment she sends customers fabric photos and they are able to personally select which fabrics they want for their garment before they are even listed on Etsy.

The prices at Mango Tree Creations are very reasonable, based on the cost of the cloth and the time invested in the garment creation.  Ann does excellent work as evidenced by her greater than 300 fine recommendations, which, by the way, compliment Ann as the seller as often as the quality of the product.
Mango Tree Creations has world-wide clientele from all over the US, countries in Europe, Asia and Australia.

As I write this she is listing even more products!

The below content is sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur’s Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Every parent hopes to avoid dealing with head lice, but much like taxes, some things can’t always be avoided. In the United States alone, an estimated six to 12 million head lice infestations occur each year in school aged children.[i] If you are facing head lice after your child returns home from camp, there are resources available to help!

The Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice website is driven by experts who are also moms, so they get it. The site features basic information on the little critters like symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and treatment options, and a variety of tools including:
·         The How to Lose the Lice Guide, with a handy checklist to save time and reduce stress when battling head lice
·         The Headfirst! Lice Experience video allows you to choose your experience, whether it be you’re not sure you have lice, or you just want to get rid of them:

It’s important to remember the most common way to spread head lice is head-to-head contact. Thinking ahead with things like teaching your child to avoid sharing brushes or hats is a good start.

So if you’re trying to get rid of head lice post-camp, or a parent who always likes to be prepared for next season, visit Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice for more information.

I Never Ever Ever

...will I believe that Abby is about to turn five in less than a month.

...will I stop liking the movie "Goonies". It holds some major childhood memories and I love it. Side note: I remember trying to convince some kids at school once that I was in it. Um yeah, I wasn't.

...will I turn down a margarita on the rocks, with salt.

...will I stop taking photos. I am addicted. Love being able to look at all the moments I've captured.

...will I hate Nutella. Period. I want to try to make my own. Why? Just because I can.

Homemade Nutella

How good does that look?! Anyway, back to the list. Never ever ever...

...will I say no butter on my movie popcorn.

...will I stop loving nail polish. They keep making the cutest colors and the neatest polishes.

Reading Kingdom

I was recently given the opportunity to review a new website called Reading Kingdom. Abby has had a lot of fun with it. So what is it? The Reading Kingdom is a fun, easy-to-use online program that teaches children 4-10 years old how to read and write to a third grade level. There are some definite benefits to the Reading Kingdom program.

  • Most kids can use the program on their own after just a few lessons.
  • It's fun so children think they're playing a game and want to practice.
  • It was created by Dr. Marion Blank, Director of the Light on Learning Program at Columbia University and one of the world's top experts in reading.
  • It works with any other curriculum a child may be using.
  • It's the only program to offer customized online reading instruction for each child.
  • And, it's the only system that teaches all 6 skills needed for reading & writing success!

Abby was able to use the program on her own after a couple lessons. It was very interesting to see how she reacted to it because she loves letters. She would giggle when the characters popped up on the screen. After just a few lessons we mentioned one of the words she had seen "hi" and asked her how to spell it. She promptly replied "H-I". I was in shock! I think after more use she will pick it up even more.
And, the best part is that she really likes doing the lessons!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
I have a confession to make: I am a procrastinator. Nowhere in my life is this more evident than in my housework. Or shall I say messy house because that is usually happening more often than any housework. It's not something I am proud of. I can put on blinders and not even see it anymore. Subconsciously however it is a major source of anxiety. I never realize that until I have deep cleaned.
Now, I'm not saying the house is filthy (though I think most of us have those moments) I am saying it is cluttered. Clean laundry in baskets. Never completely current on the dishes. Yeah, that sort of mess.

Recently, there was a revelation in my life in the form of one word. Pride. Usually that word is used in a negative context as in pride comes before a fall. But what I mean by the word pride is this...taking pride in the everyday life God has blessed you with. Your everyday life will obviously vary from mine and I'm not talking about being Martha Stewart here. I am talking about giving your best to your "job" whatever that is to you. It can be working outside of the home but for me, obviously, it means my work in the home. Putting it before tv or the internet, gasp. Never ahead of my family though.

Keep in mind that you love your home, spouse and children and you take care of them better than anyone else could.

Live being a Mom
{via}
One last note, I am not in any way knocking Mom's that work. At all. I think it's awesome. I still believe the quote above applies to you however. You may kick butt in the court room but seriously, the "work" you do at home is the greatest you will ever do.

Kiss those summertime blues away, because Stella & Dot just launched their new fall line!
This collection features gorgeous jewelry, scarves, bags and more that are perfect for those fall outfits!

Picture the leaves changing as you walk through the park, going to a pumpkin patch or drinking apple cider,
all while looking fabulous in your new fall accessories from Stella & Dot.

Happy Shopping!

I have to admit something to you. It's been 5 months since I last got my hair cut. I'll wait while you come to. I just haven't done it and it needed to be done. For sure. My hair had gotten so uneven and just...bad.
Normally, I just get it evened up with a trim. This time I decided to do something different. I had a moment so I sat down and looked at the books. You know what books I am talking about. The books of hair dreams. The beautiful pictures of haircuts you hope to have but that your cut will never quite live up to.
That being said, I went for it. I was still a bit cautious. Btw, the two cuts I picked out were the SAME cut and I didn't realize it. I didn't cut it quite as short as the ones in the book. But, I cannot put my hair in a ponytail anymore if that helps. Actually, let me show you a pic.

Pretty cute, right? Can you see the length in the back? It's shorter in the back and angles slightly out to the front. It's supposed to be shorter back there. That is how I was still cautious. I really like it, more so if I straighten my hair like in the photo. I have naturally curly hair and that look is a bit harder to wrap my mind around. I'm not sure how much hair I had cut off. I know the back of my hair was below my shoulders before hand.

What is the most drastic hair decision you have made?
