Being that this is the last Musical Monday of January and the eve of my Mom's birthday, I thought it only right to pick a song that reminds me of her. Now technically this song is from a mom to a daughter but it still fits because my mom gave me a copy of this CD years back. Every time I hear it I think of her and usually cry.

I'm so thankful for my mom. I hope she has an amazing birthday! <3 p="">

50 Inspirational Quotes That Every-One Should Read

It's time you knew something about me. I'm a procrastinator. This is particularly frustrating because I am also a bit of an anxious person at times. So, why do I insist on holding off on a project until I feel panic and pressure to be done right then? The quote today feels perfectly timed. If I just begin...then I am on the path to being done. Instead of overthinking and worrying about something I just need to start. Do you struggle with worrying about the end result before you've even started? It's paralyzing honestly. Trust me. So, from here on out I'm going to try to remember that the best way to get things done is to simply begin.

Dear Abigail,

My sweet, sweet girl. You are eight and a half. Well, almost. The years seem to be flying by and I know that before I blink you will be driving and in high school. But, before we get there I want you to know a few things. I love you. I love you not because a mother is supposed to love her daughter but because you are amazing. I love hanging out with you. Watching you take in the world. Your thirst for knowledge is precious even when that means I am googling sea otter information when I'd rather not.

You care about other people. You love God. You love watching cooking shows and Bob Ross with me. You have big dreams. Some day you want to be on a cooking competition and you also want to be a ninja when you grow up. You feel everything so deeply. Some day this may feel like a bad thing but it's not. We are similar in this way. Just remember that God is more trustworthy than your emotions but it's okay to feel them. You were made exactly the way you are for a reason.

This is our first year of homeschooling. You have been a trooper. Not every day is perfect but I love being able to be your teacher. I'm so proud of how hard you work and how smart you are as a result. You love to read, write, and draw. You also love to share your knowledge of math to people and it makes me smile. One of your favorite math facts is 1000/10=100. Yep, the more and more I get to be around you the prouder I am.

You are Daddy's Little Girl for sure but you always make sure I know I'm loved too. Such a sweet girl. You love to tickle wrestle with us and talk about how we better not get "Memere's knees" or you'll tell her. And you do tell her which I find hilarious.

In each messy, chaotic day there's always a ray of light. I am your momma.

Love,
Mommy

Today I thought I'd share thirteen books I loved as a kid. I've always been a reader. The reading bug bit me at a young age. I was four when my mom taught me to read and I've been soaking up the written word ever since.

1. Bea and Mr. Jones by Amy Schwartz

2. Super Fudge by Judy Blume

3. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

4. Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary

5. Are you there God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume

6. Kristi's Great Idea by Ann M. Martin

7. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz

8. Heaven by V.C. Andrews

9. Sweet Valley High by Francine Pascal

10. Secret of the Pyramids (Choose Your Own Adventure) by Richard Brightfield

11. Nothings Fair in Fifth Grade by Barthe DeClements

12. The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright

13. Blubber by Judy Blume

Actually, I think I could have filled this entire list with Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary books. I don't think I've ever found an author I love so much in my adult life.

Who is your favorite author?

Another Wordless Wednesday already? Truth be told I love any chance to share photos with ya'll. So here goes!

In the fall of 1994 the hubs and I - then simply two good friends - went to an Elton John concert together. He insists it was our first date. I say it wasn't. Well, either way it was amazing and the start of something special. While I could pick any of the songs we heard that night to share today, I figured I'd share something less obvious. On the way home, I believe, we were listening to the radio when the following song came on.

It was so well-timed. Honestly, I'd been crushing on this boy for years. Would never admit it but everyone knew. Everyone. In my mind this song was our first song together even though we didn't start dating until early in the next year. Here are the words if you want to sing along.

Oh I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship,
Has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show

I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear

And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might

And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever

'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crushing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore

My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you, girl
'Cause you take me to the places
That alone I'd never find

And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might

And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever

'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore

The first lines alone fit our situation so well. Honestly, it makes me giggle now. I'm so thankful that it has a part in our love story.

So many of us, myself included, spend our time trying to appear as if we've got it all together. Well, I'm here to shatter that illusion and challenge that way of thinking. Don't fool yourself. We are all broken. We are. Perfection is an illusion that will leave you feeling depressed and unmotivated. When you realize that everyone around you is broken too, you find it's okay. And it is okay. Being broken is what makes other people relate to us. Have you ever noticed how you feel when you discover someone else that has gone through something you have? There's a kinship. There's joy. There's peace. We all feel alone sometimes. It's a lie that affects everything we do.

So share your brokenness with other people. Let the light shine through the cracks. The light makes the vessel beautiful.

It's that time of year again! In a few short weeks people will come together to watch the Superbowl. Me? I get together for the company and munchies. Sorry to say, I can't even tell you who is playing. Has it even been decided yet? See...I told you I'm bad about this. Don't hold it against me. So, for today's Thursday Thirteen I thought I'd share 13 fabulous Superbowl recipes. Now, most of these recipes are not my own creations. So, please click through to the individual blogs to get the full recipes.

Okay, so technically this isn't Wordless Wednesday if I am typing words. But, these words aren't actually about the photo so I say it doesn't count. And, really, what I say goes here. Right? Okay, so do you know how hard it is for me to seriously not write at least a caption about the photo? SOO hard. But, I will refrain. For today. Okay, I'm going now.
Enjoy the photo and please leave me some love below.

Have you made any resolutions for 2017? I ask because I don't. I'd love to but honestly I don't want to be one of those people who makes them and breaks them. You know, "I resolve to lose 50 lbs and go to the gym five times a week." and then drop off the face of Planet Gym after a month.

But, is it really any better to be the person that is afraid of failing? I don't think so. I mean, at least "those people that break resolutions" are trying. They put themselves and their goals out there. Me? I just sit here crying to myself because things don't change magically on their own.

I've come to the realization that at some point, in order to change, you actually have to resolve to make those changes. My thoughts? Don't jump on the bandwagon or wait to change on January 1st. Start right away, whenever that happens to be.

Change is life.
This week's song is by a group I have loved for years. I won't say I've been a lifelong fan but it always seems I'm getting their songs stuck in my brain.

One of the reasons I like this song so much is that the words are so great. Here they are, just for you!

Can't count the years on one hand that we've been together
I need the other one to hold you
Make you feel, make you feel better
It's not a walk in the park to love each other
But when our fingers interlock, can't deny, can't deny, you're the worth it

'Cause after all this time
I'm still into you

I should be over all the butterflies but I'm into you, I'm into you
And even baby our worst nights
I'm into you, I'm into you
Let 'em wonder how we got this far,
'Cause I don't really need to wonder at all
Yeah, after all this time
I'm still into you

Recount the night that I first met your mother
And on the drive back to my house I told you that, I told you that I loved ya
You felt the weight of the world fall off the shoulder
And to your favorite song we sang along, to the start of forever

And after all this time
I'm still into you

I should be over all the butterflies but I'm into you, I'm into you
And even baby our worst nights
I'm into you, I'm into you
Let 'em wonder how we got this far,
'Cause I don't really need to wonder at all
Yeah after all this time
I'm still into you

Some things just, some things just make sense
And one of those is you and I
Some things just, some things just make sense
And even after all this time

I'm into you
Baby not a day goes by that I'm not into you

I should be over all the butterflies but I'm into you, I'm into you
And even baby our worst nights
I'm into you, I'm into you
Let 'em wonder how we got this far,
'Cause I don't really need to wonder at all
Yeah after all this time
I'm still into you
I'm still into you
I'm still into you

It reminds me of my relationship with my hubby. Cause even after all these years I'm still into him in a huge way. I love that everyone can connect to a song in a different way. We all have our own stories and music is this amazing soundtrack to our lives.
you are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously:

I struggle when things seem to contradict. Sometimes I need permission to feel they are both true. If this describes you as well then here is your permission. We are both God's masterpiece and works in progress. Someday we will be complete but not yet.
Don't let your status determine your value.

Today I'm going to share thirteen movies I have loved. They may or may not be new releases. They also may or may not be kids movies. Hey, what can I say? I'm mom to an 8 year old!

1. Doctor Strange: I am not by any means into movies based on comic books but this was a great movie. Lots of action and it kept totally awake. Which, these days, is hard to do.

2. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: I am, as you might know, a huge Potterhead. This movie was exciting. I loved stepping back into the wizard world. It had a lot of action as well.

3. Into the Woods: Can I first say I had no idea this was a musical? What planet have I been living on? I loved the music in this movie. And, the premise was imaginative as well.

4. Bad Moms: I have a hard time putting this one on here because man does it have bad language in it. BUT I love the message and the actors in it. So, I am not going to tell you to run out and watch it but I like it.

5. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: I find I'm always drawn to quirky movies. Guess I'm a quirky person. The special kids and the time element kept me interested. There were a few freaky parts that were out of my element however.

6. Pete's Dragon: I don't normally love remakes and was fearing this one due to the fact that I adore the original musical version. However, I just thought this was so well done. It was emotional and hit all the right notes.

7. Now You See Me 2: I just had to love this one because I love the cast and also because I loved the first one so much. It's not the same and I do like the first one more but that's neither here nor there.

8. Clue: Yes, I've just finally watched this movie. I don't know how I've gone so long without watching it. I thought it was hilarious and reminded me of another favorite, "Noises Off".

9. Finding Dory: There was something sweet about this movie. As a mom, I watched it from the eyes of a mom. I think we all look at our kids and wonder how they will fair on their own. Seeing little Dory was precious and her voice was the same. Loved the underlying messages in this movie.

10. Hairspray Live: The live musicals that have graced our tv screens lately have gotten a lot of bad publicity. I have enjoyed them all for what they are....not movie remakes but live versions of musicals. As a former choir geek I am a huge fan of musicals as it is and this one was well done.

11. Step Up: I don't know what took me so long to watch this. I typically love dance movies and I didn't even know who the main stars were initially. Seriously. I always wish I was born with the "dancing gene" but I suppose I should be happy with the things I've been gifted with.

12. Goosebumps: And to think I was worried this would be too scary for me. I loved the storyline being about R.L. Stine. It was a movie that both me and the kiddo liked.

13. Alice Through the Looking Glass: Johnny Depp. Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway. Enough said.

One of my favorite things, as you know by now, is music. I love to listen to it and sing along with it. I'm a singer and have been since I was a kid. So, when I hear music I love, I tend to get pretty excited about it. This weekly feature is an extension of that. I'll be sharing some of my favorite music both old and new. So here is this week's pick. And yes, I know this isn't last years Top Hits. I didn't wanna.

This is a medley of the Top Hits of 2015 in 3.5 minutes by the group Us the Duo. There are 17 songs in this medley. Now, I will say I'm not a huge fan of every single song but their voices are amazing. I also love how they transition from song to song.

Did you hear a song you love? I'd have to say Uma Thurman by Fall Out Boy is one of my favorites.

wow!:

There are some words that hit you right where it counts and these are some of those words. I am most definitely a talker. I'm moving in the right direction but I still talk more than pray. I think it will always be somewhat of a struggle and that's okay. I just want to keep improving.
So here we are at our first Thursday Thirteen of the new year. A whole lot has happened since the last time I did one of these. There's a reason for that. I've been avoiding doing one since things were so...crazy. Without further ado, here goes!

1. Packing will be the next thing on my to do list as we have to get ready for our big move.

2. Our big move is no longer to Tennessee. Long story. Really long story.

3. Instead we are moving back to the Valley. And, by the valley I mean the Phoenix area. Yes, really.

4. I'm already sweating at the thought. I need to invest in good fans.

5. In related news, my husband has a new job. Brand new. He started this week.

6. Did I mention we will need to list and sell our home in Wyoming? Oh yes, and figure out where we will live long term in Arizona. Prayers appreciated.

7. Family and friends in AZ are excited while friends in WY are most decidedly not. We're, of course, torn.

8. Homeschooling with our daughter is going well and will be continued throughout all the craziness. We have had a great Christmas break though.

9. One of my goals this year is more reading. So, if you have any books to recommend please let me know.

10. Another goal is to journal more. I need to use these adorable journals if I'm going to keep them. And I am. Going. to keep them.

11. Currently I am doing a devotional I love called Comparison Trap. It's on the YouVersion Bible App and really speaks to something I struggle with frequently. Anybody else deal with comparing themselves to others?

12. It's amazing how much a vacation can mess with your sleep schedule. It's fun but tiring.

13. Vacations also mess with our 8 year old's moods and sleep. If you were in the grocery store yesterday and saw a little girl trying to "hold it together" while sniffling back tears with a red spotted face, I'm sorry you had to witness that. It's life.
I actually found this song last New Year but I still love it. JJ Heller's music always seems to find a way to become so personal to me and touch my soul. So, here we are with my first Musical Monday of 2017 and the song "This Year" by JJ Heller. Below I've included the lyrics.

This year I'm not looking back to who I was
Because I'm gonna be someone I've never been.
This year I'm not focused on the cracks in the walls.
Not keeping track of all the times I fall.
This year.

So long to last year
It's all becoming so clear
There's no use living in regret.
Let's fight a good fight
Train our eyes to find the light
and make this year  the best one yet.
Starting right here.
Happy New Year.

This year I can't wait to see what good will come
to feel alive instead of feeling numb
This year I plan on thinking less of I and we
I resolve to think of us and we this year.

So long to last year
It's all becoming so clear
There's no use living in regret.
Let's fight a good fight
Train our eyes to find the light
and make this year  the best one yet.
Starting right here Happy New Year.

So long to last year
It's all becoming so clear
There's no use living in regret.
Let's fight a good fight
Train our eyes to find the light
and make this year  the best one yet.
Starting right here.
Happy New Year.

Happy New Year.

My favorite lines are probably "there's no use living in regret" because I feel I do that a lot. Here's to a New Year full of chances to let go and let God do impossible things in us.
The eve of 2017 was not very exciting but I'm okay with that. My hubby and daughter napped for about 2.5 hours in the afternoon and somehow she still went to bed before 10 pm. That's a win in my book. Then, we watched some shows and I did some blog work. So, no fancy parties or champagne toasts at midnight. Still, I have my family and am glad to be welcoming in the New Year.

Honestly, I feel as if 2016 was pretty rough in so many ways. I'm not going to get into debates but I will share my prayers for this year. They are focused on things I want to work on in myself but I hope they touch your heart.

In 2017 I pray...

...that I can be God's love to others.

...that, though I am broken and imperfect, God would use me.

...for peace where there is fear.

...for joy where there is sorrow.

...that all people I come in contact with would know they are important and loved.

...that I would treat everyone as equals.

...for the ability to give myself and others grace.

Happy New Year to you all. May 2017 be infinitely better than 2016 in so many ways. How did you spend your New Year's Eve?
