Harsh Words Make Tempers Flare

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15:1 NLT
It is so easy to think we have to make ourselves heard. Loud voices and demands get results don't they? Well, they certainly get attention but does it matter that it's the wrong kind? I think so. When we are dealing with any situation, from the whole Chick-Fil-A thing to financial struggles between a couple to a disagreement between friends, a gentle word does put anger off it's game. Anger and gentleness cannot co-exist in the same space. I want to be the person who is gentle and patient not brimming with frustration. Not stoking the fire of anger.

How can I be this person?

a) Think before I speak. (James 3:5-6 is a reminder)

b) More importantly pray always. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

c) If I am arguing due to pride, which is typical for me, step back instead of forward. (Proverbs 16:18)

d) Look out for other people's needs. It distracts you from living in your head. (Philippians 2:3-4 & John 13:34-35 as well as many others)

Just a note for myself. I hope you find some inspiration in my words as well.
